Artisans to work 'On the Square'

Press 05.12.1976

MURRAY HILL - Before the days of television, telephones, and fast cars, the town square was the place to shop, catch up on the latest news and generally spend a few moments enjoying friends and neighbors.
To celebrate the continuance of that tradition, Historic Murray Hill Square announces its "On-the-Square" program.

Each Saturday beginning May 17, local artisans will be on hand to demonstrate the arts and crafts of colonial times. Everyone is invited to come and watch or, in some cases, participate in arts and crafts such as stained glass work, furniture restoring, needle craft, dried flower arranging or calligraphy.

Local artists and craftsmen who would like to participate in Historic Murray Hill Square's "On-The-Square" program are invited to call 464-5097 with their ideas and qualifications.

Some of the demonstrations scheduled are:
Sat. May 17 Gus Stasi working with stained glass and copper foil
Sat. May 24 Fran Manola Calligraphy
Sat. May 31 Bill Plummer furniture restoring (Bill invites you to bring small pieces for restoration advice)
Sat. June 7 Edith Isoldi Dried flower arranging
Sat. June 14 Ginnie Johnson - Needlecraft
Sat. June 21 Elaine Dalzell and Gretchen Kuyk - Stenciling and theorem painting
